Mets Cola
480 mL bottle 0.42 g sugar / oz. |
History Japanese beverage giant Kirin released Mets Cola in 2012. The first-ever functional beverage diet cola is designed to accompany fast foods such as hamburgers or pizza. The dextrin fiber in the drink prevents the stomach from absorbing as much fat from food. Review The plastic bottle probably lost some of the carbonation but its still a crisp cola even without the fizz. Its more on the bitter end of cola flavors than the fruity side. More akin to Coke than Pepsi. After a few sips the aspartame & sucralose flavors are leaving a strong aftertaste on my tongue which is a big negative to me, though its perhaps not so different from other diet colas. The "functional beverage" part of this drink is the indigestible dextrin fiber, which has no noticeable taste. Its supposed to make it harder for the stomach to absorb fats if you are drinking this while eating french fries and hamburgers. Maybe it'd taste better alongside some greasy food too. What happens in my stomach if I'm just drinking it for refreshment on a hot summer afternoon? Postscript: it messed up my stomach a few hours later. Blech!
