History Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co. launched Milkis in April 1989. A massive TV advertising campaign featured actor Chow Yun-Fat declaring his love for the new soda, which became a popular catchphrase. Unlike the similar-sounding milk drink Calpis, Milkis is a soda pop and is flavored by adding milk powder to carbonated water rather than by a fermentation process. Review Excellent. A mild & pleasant uplifting drink. It tastes like an orange Dreamsicle popsicle: creamy milk with just a little orange flavor. A little carbonation adds a slight sour kick to an otherwise very mellow drink. I think the plain Milkis is a little better, though. This orange overloads the sweetness balance a little too much, after several sips, so its not quite as perfect. All in all its a surprisingly smooth and fresh tasting drink. Not at all like other drinks featuring powdered milk & corn syrup like Yoo-Hoo or even the terrible bottled Rosa's Horchata.
