Bulldog Root Beer
Another root beer manufacturer contacted us recently! Teri Fahrendorf, the brewmaster for Bulldog Brewing Company of Fresno, California, offered to send us a sample of Bulldog Root Beer for us to include in the Great American Root Beer Showdown. Teri writes:
We've been making our bottled honey-vanilla root beer since 1998. It is contract brewed for us by a microbrewery in California. The recipe took two years of development because one of my bosses had a very specific flavor profile that I had to match. FYI: Our root beer uses cane sugar.
According to the Bulldog website, the root beer is a cooperative project between the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Fresno State University and Bulldog Brewery Company. Students in the program work to promote sales and create marketing for the brand. It sounds like a unique kind of internship and good experience for those students. And until they succeed in lining up distributors in Chicago, we might not be able to get ahold of a bottle, so we were happy for Teri's offer to send a sample. In anticipation, we planned a taste test for Sunday afternoon the following weekend.
But Round 16 came and went without the sample from Bulldog. Monday morning the package finally arrived, so the next weekend we did another test, Round 17, in order to get Bulldog into the experiment.
